Man accused of raping, impregnating 12-year-old girl

A 28-year-old man from West Maardam is facing charges of sexual assault and child cruelty after investigators say he raped and impregnated a 12-year-old girl last October. West Maardam police officers spoke to the victim last month and confirmed with medical staff she was eight months pregnant. The victim’s mother informed them the father of her daughter’s baby was Jorge Estuardo Cobon-Juarez, according to police records.

The victim gave birth to a baby girl July 1, and a few days later, she gave investigators a written statement describing the sex acts she performed with Cobon-Juarez. West Maardam police officers say they arrested Cobon-Juarez on July 13 after a paternity test proved he is the victim’s child’s biological father. He denied touching her or having intercourse with anyone other than his adult girlfriend when questioned.

Cobon-Juarez is still behind bars and is expected to be back in court Aug. 13.
